News About Electric Vehicles

Introduction

In the last few years, electric vehicles have leaped from being science experiments to viable mainstream products. Of course, not everyone is sold on electrifying their transportation. There are arguments for and against electric vehicles, each with its own merits.

What are electric vehicles?

Electric motors power electric cars (and other forms of transportation) without any emissions at all. That’s the basic idea behind electric vehicles.

Is it safe?

Although there are concerns about electric vehicles and the environment (being powered by fossil fuels), fossil-fueled cars and trucks spew out toxins all day long. EVs are much cleaner, and more people have been demanding cleaner products for years. Electric cars replace gas-guzzling vehicles, so there is less pollution from automobile exhaust, greenhouse gasses, and particulates. Since they use electricity instead of petrol or diesel fuel, they also emit no carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

Will it work?

One of the main drawbacks of electric vehicles is their limited range. Compared to gasoline or diesel-powered vehicles, EVs are limited to a daily commute of 60 to 100 miles. Fortunately, most people drive less than 40 miles per day and charging times are improving as well.

How do you charge it?

Electric vehicles require charging time (unless they are running on more traditional lead-acid batteries). However, newer batteries can be recharged in about an hour using a standard 110/220 VAC outlet.

The future

The trend will likely continue through the next decade. The ability to run a car on electricity is an attractive option for many consumers, and that will only grow as the technology advances and the charging stations become more prevalent. As we move forward into a greener future, expect to see more and more electric cars on the road. The performance is improving all the time, too. Within another decade, most manufacturers will likely be using electric motors instead of traditional internal combustion engines.
